A CARDIFF cinema is taking part in a dazzling world premiere of Disney’s A Christmas Carol which hopes to break the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous 3-D film premiere.

The Odeon cinema at the Red Dragon Centre will be screening the new film, which stars Jim Carrey, Colin Firth and Bob Hoskins, on November 3. There will also be a live link-up to the red carpet in Leicester Square.

Emma Ahrens, duty manager at the Cardiff Bay cinema, said that tickets were selling well for the event: “We’re really excited to have the premiere here and hopefully it’ll be a record-breaker too.”

The 3-D film will attempt to break the record by being screened across the UK from Glasgow to Southampton as well as in London. Three concerts will be held across the city including London’s biggest-ever co-ordinated Christmas lights switch-on and celebration.

The Disney version is the latest of many cinematic adaptations of Charles Dickens’ classic Christmas tale.

DAAH! The "performance capture CG" captures perfectly the human movement and then, apparently, it applies to the lifeless body on the puppet strings! I'm not hiding under my bed, typing this in my keyboard Whacking with a long stick. Just ... just disturbing. I looked into the slavering jaws of hell and given desiccated corpse of Jim Carrey prancing in a room CG, rocked by a drunken puppeteer. I had to Pants-crapping insane to be assaulted by this nightmare fuel.

Either that, or Robert Zemeckis filmed and released Scarecrow fear toxin in my room when I was not looking. Frisk him this moment and see if he wears a mask with burlap and a pitchfork.

That was pretty awful. I think Polar Express Forever must have soured me on that kind of thing.

Marley's Ghost looks like something from a deleted scene Playstation (the original Playstation).In the clip where Scrooge is a ride on Bob Cratchitt, Scrooge is supposed dramatic transition from being mean "Old Scrooge" with joy and redemption "New Scrooge" - instead of the face is simply a kind of grimace "smile . Nothing else lights up his features.

I do not know if Jim Carrey did not act this way or if something was lost in translation, but color me unimpressed. Alastair Sim and others who have conveyed this classic story over the years have little to fear, I think.
